Avalon Building and Blogging

Can I really care this much about flooring and faucets? Apparently, I can.

Granite and light fixtures, and a lot of rain.

Since most of you out there in Ryan Homes Bloggerland are likely East Coast folks, I hope you all made it through the storm and crazy winds today ok, and that your houses (in whatever state of done-ness they are) are ok, too. I ran over to our new house when the storm was over, partly to get out of the house for a little bit, and partly to make sure it was all in one piece. I had images of all the windows open, and water pouring down the stairs. But all was fine, and there were some new additions. It’s like everyday is Christmas. A really, really expensive, only-fun-for-grown-ups Christmas. Or maybe Hanukkah is a better reference, because there’s something fun arriving every night.

Today’s additions:

Our granite is in! I didn't get a chance to choose our slab, and I'm really relieved I like this color gradation.

Dining room light fixture. It's ok for now. I need to ask them to raise it up a few inches. That's too low for me.

Same fixture in the foyer. How on earth am I going to change those bulbs? Really. I'm going to need about a 20' ladder.

Porch and sidewalk poured.

Tree down on lines on the way into the neighborhood. The lights were all on, though, so I don't know where these lines run.

Thanks. I’ve been posting everyday or every other day. I think the Blogspot blogs don’t care for the WordPress blogs, and things get hidden for a bit. I don’t get everyone’s updates on my home page, and often have to go poking. I love seeing how all the other houses are going up!

Your home is looking great. Coming together so fast. It seems like just yesterday we were blogging about breaking ground. I hear you on the light bulbs. I have a 2 story foyer too and 2 ceiling fans in my family room. I’m going to have to rent a man lift to change bulbs… 😦

My fifteen-year-old is over 6′, so I think I might hire three of his friends to stand on his shoulders… Surely there’s some sort of device that will help us change the bulbs, right?

I can’t believe we’re less than three weeks to close. ARGH! How has this happened so fast??

Just this morning someone was telling me that after they built with RH they had to change every single light in the house in the first year.. The bulbs they use doesn’t last he said.

I kind of figured we’d have to do that. Some of the bulbs they put in are the energy saver ones, and I really hate those in the bathrooms. I’m still stressed out about changing the foyer lights, though. Will have to ask at the final walk-through just how they suggest we handle that!
